USC Football: Miller Moss shines in audition for 2024

All the talk around the USC Football program has been about who’ll be the starting quarterback in 2024 with the transfer of Malachi Nelson. USC has brought in Kansas State transfer Will Howard and Lincoln Riley hasn’t quite been satisfied seeking out top transfer quarterbacks to compete for the role in 2024.

However, it looks like Miller Moss should be the lead man for the job after a record setting Holliday Bowl. Miller Moss passed for Six Touchdowns passing 23-33 for 372 yards and rushed for 13 yards. His six touchdowns were a program record for USC Football in a bowl game. Moss had a solid connection with freshman wide receiver Ja’Kobi Lane who had three catches for 60 yards and two touchdowns.

The Trojans won the game 42-28 over 15th ranked Louisville despite having a majority of their roster opting out of the bowl game to enter the NFL Draft or the transfer portal. The win marked the USC Trojans first bowl game win since 2016 and the first of the Lincoln Riley Era. The USC Trojans celebrated their Holliday Bowl win by dousing Lincoln Riley in eggnog.

Entering 2024 the USC Trojans will be undergoing massive changes as they enter the Big Ten. The USC Trojans will need to improve defensively after two abysmal seasons with Alex Grinch as the defensive coordinator. On defense the Trojans have lost former top recruits Domani Jackson and Korey Foreman to the transfer portal as well as key defenders Tackett Curtis, Fabian Ross, and Xamarion Gordon.

USC Football: Replacing Caleb Williams

The USC Football will face a tall task in replacing Caleb Williams however it’s important to remember Lincoln Riley has done this before. Lincoln Riley replaced Heisman winner Baker Mayfield with Heisman winner Kyler Murray who he then replaced with Heisman finalist Jalen Hurts before going to Spencer Rattler who he replaced with Heisman winner Caleb Williams. Riley will have great options at quarterback with Will Howard and Miller Moss.
