New York Giants: Devito mania comes to an end as Eagles win 33-25

The New York Giants saw Tommy Devito mania end as their playoff chances died at the hands of the Philadelphia Eagles on Christmas. The Eagles jumped out to a 20-3 lead over the New York Giants as a Jalen Hurts rushing touchdown got the Eagles on the board followed by a Devonta Smith receiving touchdown and a pair of touchdowns while the Giants only managed a Mason Crosby Field Goal. The Giants only managed 55 passing yards in the first half leading to Brian Daboll pulling the rookie.

This game was a tale of two halves as for how dominant the Eagles looked in the first half they let the game flip in the second half as the Giants scored 15 third quarter points to get back into the fight. The scoring in the second half started for the New York Giants thanks to a fumbled kick off by the Eagles where an Eagles player nailed his own teammate causing a fumble. The fumble lead to a Saquon Barkley touchdown his eighth of the season.

The New York Giants then scored on an Adoree Jackson pick six which Jackson took 76 yards for the score drawing a facemask that led to a Saquon Barkley two-point conversion. The fourth quarter was a battle as the Eagles outscored the Giants 13-7. The turning point was the Eagles final drive as they took four minutes off the clock scoring three points and burning every Giants timeout.

New York Giants and Eagles biggest takeaways

The biggest takeaways from the Giants are as follows: this team belongs to Tyrod Taylor for the rest of the season. While Tommy Devito had a great run it became clear today that Taylor is the better fit for this team especially behind a struggling offensive line. The Giants need to find a way to get Jalin Hyatt involved, after the rookie had his first career 100-yard game the receiver has gotten three targets over the past two games. The Giants need to draft offensive linemen in this years draft or sign a few free agents, outside of Andrew Thomas the struggles on the line make it nearly impossible to have a functional offense. This years draft will be massive for the Giants, they’ll have needs along the offensive line and in the secondary as Adoree Jackson and Xavier Mckinney will hit free agency.

The Eagles have to be pleased with the result of the game however they continue to struggle to play consistent football especially as we near the playoffs. The Eagles pass heavy offense has clearly caused issues and was the reason the Giants were able to claw their way back into this game. Elias Ricks and Kelee Ringo have started to develop nicely for the Eagles as they may have found a pair of cheap reliable options in the secondary.
