New York Knicks: OG Anunoby to NY

The New York Knicks made a massive trade in acquiring OG Anunoby, Precious Achiuwa, and Malachi Flynn for RJ Barrett, Immanuel Quickley, and a second-round pick. Starting with the New York Knicks OG Anunoby will provide the team with a lot of the things Tom Thibodeau wants in a player.

On the other hand there’s no other way to feel than disappointed in how RJ Barrett’s career as a Knick turned out. The New York Knicks entered the 2019 Draft Lottery with great odds to win the Zion Williamson sweepstakes with a chance to flip the pick for Anthony Davis and expectations to sign Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant. The Knicks ended up falling to three missing out on Zion Williamson and Ja Morant, and never ended up landing their superstar. RJ Barrett had a fine New York Knicks career as an 18.1 ppg career player however, he never blossomed into the superstar they expected.

The player Knicks fans will be most disappointed in losing however is Immanuel Quickley. A first round pick in the 2020 Draft alongside Obi Toppin Quickley blossomed into a fan favorite. He was the runner up in last season’s sixth man of the year race, in his best season as a pro. This season Quickley was off to a great start averaging 15 points per game. The writing was on the wall for a potential Quickley move when he wasn’t given an extension by the Knicks this year.

In OG Anunoby the Knicks acquire one of the best “three and d” players in the league. He lead the league in steals per game and total steals last season with1.9 SPG and 128 steals. The trade gives the Knicks a great defender who will instantly provide a boost to a struggling New York Knicks defense. The deal clears cap space for the Knicks entering a summer in which they will need to make a massive splash to better their roster. Achiuwa also provides the New York Knicks a little more flexibility at center with Mitchell Robinson’s injury.
