Texas A&M Aggies: 5 Star WR Evan Stewart latest Aggie to transfer what’s next?

The Texas A&M Aggies have lost another former five-star wide receiver as Evan Stewart entered the transfer portal as the latest of many former top recruits to transfer. This offseason has brought plenty of departures as Walter Nolen, Fadil Diggs, Chase Bisontis, Jake Johnson, and LT Overton are among the 19 players to enter the transfer portal from Texas A&M. Despite optimism around new head coach Mike Elko there appears to either be an issue in the NIL program or with the boosters as many former top recruits have left the Texas A&M aggies program.

Evan Stewart will most likely be one of the most highly recruited players in the transfer portal. Stewart was the 6th overall prospect as a recruit out of high school and the top WR prospect. Stewart had a disappointing season in 2023 catching only 38 passes for 514 yards and 4 touchdowns. The lack of production from Stewart can easily be attributed to injuries at quarterback for Texas A&M as Connor Weigman was injured in the fourth game of the season.

Among those in play for Stewart will likely be some of the schools from his initial recruitment in Alabama, Florida, LSU, Texas and others. I’d expect Stewart to strongly consider Texas and Alabama as finalists for his Junior season. Choosing either Alabama or Texas would be massive for his NFL Draft stock playing with Heisman Candidates in Quinn Ewers and Jalen Milroe.

Losing Stewart in a way marks the end of an era at Texas A&M as a majority of Texas A&M’s historic 2022 recruiting class has transferred looking to start fresh at new schools. The Mike Elko era at College Station will likely come nowhere close to the recruiting craziness it reached under Jimbo Fisher but, the change in philosophy may lead to better results on the field. Entering Today’s early signing day the Texas A&M Aggies enter the day with the nation’s 18th ranked recruiting class.
