New York Giants: Wink Martindale resigns as DC

The New York Giants will have to find a new defensive coordinator as Wink Martindale resigned from the position following the end of the season. The move wasn’t that shocking to those tapped into the New York Giants as Jay Glazer reported this might happen before the New York Giants played the Patriots. Martindale is certainly one of the better defensive coordinators despite the rankings the Giants received defensively. This all happened after Brian Daboll announced he expected Martindale to return for 2024.

The situation has worsened with Martindale not officially resigning in a hope of getting fried so he can sign wherever he wants while receiving the entirety of his contract.

The New York Giants defensive coordinator job will be an interesting job for many of the candidates across the NFL. The first name and most likely to land the job is former Buffalo Bills defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier. Frazier has familiarity from his time in Buffalo with Brian Daboll and New York Giants GM Joe Schoen. Leslie Frazier took a year off of football in a mutual split from the Bills but is likely returning to the NFL this season.

The most popular name around the league and among New York Giants fans will be former linebacker Antonio Pierce. Pierce should be a candidate for the Raiders head coaching job but, if the team goes elsewhere Pierce could land in New York.

New York Giants: Massive changes on the way?

The New York Giants could have a shocking amount of turnover this off season. The team will say goodbye to long time Giant Sterling Shephard and Saquon Barkley and the team could part ways after an off season filled with turmoil in negotiating an extension. The team will have to replace it’s defensive and special teams’ coordinators while they also may lose offensive coordinator Mike Kafka. The team also has a dilemma with quarterback Daniel Jones who’s owed a massive contract entering the second year of his deal with the team having more success in his absence. With the sixth pick in this years draft the Giants could look to draft Daniel Jones replacement.
